GTech Pro RR Performance Meter..

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

I finally got one of these GTech Meters the other day, and I have to say i am quite impressed with it so far.  This thing is supposed to use some accellerometers and some crazy math to tell you some things about your vehicle- Such as, Horsepower, Torque, 1/4 mile times, Handling G Force, 0-60 times and a few other goodies.  It also has some features great for all of you all that race.  if you drag race, it tells you your 60ft times and has a built in tach with shiftlights that brighten as you get closer to redline.  If you road race, the Gtech Pro RR can record your run to be later uploaded to a laptop to look at the forces acting upon your car.  The Gtech will record up to 2 hours of data.

The only complaint i have with the Pro RR is in calibrating it.  It is a pain in the neck to calibrate.  Once done though, let the fun begin.

I’ve never taken my Denali to the drag strip, and certainly have never autocrossed it, but i threw the Gtech in it anyways because all our project cars are in some state of work.  I know what kind of power my truck is supposed to make, and i know within 2/10s what i should run in the 1/4.  The Gtech was 1hp shy of what i think it should be and 4 ft lbs heavy on what i thought.  Quarter mile times as told by my Gtech Pro were within a tenth of what i should run if i go to the strip.   While these numbers may not be exact, i believe that they are close enough for a good idea of what your mods may or may not gain you.  For the cost, I dont think it can be beat, sure, you could spend the money on a few trips to your local dyno, but why not have something that tells you what you want to know when you want it?

Thats my thoughts, if anyone else has any on it, id love to hear them, leave me a comment.

Project Subaru Sti Underway….

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Alright, well, it’s not a complete build of the 04 Subaru WRX STi, its more of a lets add higer quality parts, tune the car properly, and put a nice body-kit on the car.  The car was originally built in eastern KY for Fuzion Tire to make their debut at SEMA in 04.  Now, they want to re-vamp some stuff to modernize the car with up to date parts, and they have charged us with the task.  Its going to be a fairly simple build and as much as we’d like to, we are not allowed to change the paint scheme.

Right now the car features a Turbo XS FMIC and Turbo-Back Exhaust system, Chargespeed Lip Kit, and Gauges and seats from Ractive.  One feature about the car we would really like to see function properly is the Praxis Suspension system.  Unfortuneately, the system was never made for this car but was modified (read- “hacked”) to work on the STi.  The System has so many gremlins and fitment issues we have chosen to replace the entire air system with a set of coilovers. By doing this the car will not only have the proper suspension under the car, it will clear up some room in the trunk for a mild stereo and some other goodies we are going to be installing.

Other aspects of the build include a new Chargespeed Body Kit, not the lip kit, Sparco Racing Seats, Sparco Harness’, Tein Coilovers, HPD wheels, Stoptech Brake Upgrade, and a good dyno tune. We are also removing the Ractive gauges and replacing them with Defi Gauges to properly monitor the cars performance.  Basically, we are taking out all of the out-dated, dare i say, lower quality parts, and replacing them with good stuff.  This isn’t a huge project, but it’s big enough that with the short amount of time we have to do it, it will keep us busy.

Here are a few pictures of the car before we got it and ill post pics of the car after were are done with it and all the changes.  I think you will be pleasantly suprised.

AEM Tru Boost Gauge

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

We recently recieved a shipment of these Tru-Boost Controllers and I have to say that they are pretty neat little gadget.  Fits in your gauge pod, unlike most boost controllers that have to be mounted to the dash.  We’ve heard nothing but good about them but if you have one, i’d love to hear from you and hear what you think about it.  This is what AEM says about it.

“AEM’s Tru-Boost Gauge-Type Controller is an electronic boost controller that combines the simplicity of a manual boost controller with the added ease of adjusting boost levels through a gauge interface. There is no external interface required for set up, and it is fully functional right out of the box. There are no gimmicks or special software programs included. If you want more boost press the button on the right of the gauge face, and if you want less boost press the button on the left of the gauge face. It’s that simple, and IT WORKS!

The controller includes everything you need, including an on-board 29 psig pressure sensor, built-in Overboost protection with two timed shutdown levels, a scramble boost setting and a low-side output for a warning light. The boost control solenoid (included) is the only one specifically manufactured for automotive boost applications, which means it won?t corrode and stick from exposure to rich fuel mixtures, it is pressure tested to 100 psi and includes -4 AN fittings to eliminate any chance of leaks.

Features: Complete system includes harness, boost hose, on-board 29 psig pressure sensor, boost solenoid, gauge display and all necessary fittings.
No external interface required for programming!
Two user selectable boost settings with peak boost memory.
Scramble boost setting allows user to momentarily change boost levels.
User selectable Overboost alarm includes two timed shutdown levels at 10% and 20% Overboost.
User configurable gauge includes 24 scalable LEDs, and interchangeable bezel, pin guide and faceplate to customize look of display.
One (1) low-side output included for warning lights.
Quick connect technology eases the installation process.”

AEM Uego Wideband Gauge- Finally off backorder

Monday, June 26th, 2006

After waiting for months to get these things in quanity instead of 2 at a time, they are finally off backorder.  The AEM Uego is a wideband air/fuel ratio gauge that includes a Bosch Oxygen Sensor. If you are running high amounts of boost or are using a fuel controller, you will want to install this part.  The gauge is 52mm and easily fits in most gauge holders.  If you care about the life span of your engine, this is one of the most cost efficient monitoring tools available today.
